Lessons from life… Health, Wealth & Happiness

Lessons from life... Health, Wealth & Happiness

October 27 - my 76th birthday, fit and flat-out at 150 m.p.h. Selling, valuing, lecturing and coaching, and trying to improve my golf.

November - splat! 2½ weeks in hospital, 2 operations, and a lot of time to think.

Lesson #1 - your health is easy to take for granted but so important. Exercise, rest, good food, moderation all need positive focus. They won?t totally shield you from illness but will keep you in far better shape to survive and recover.

Lesson #2 - true wealth is not $$$ in the bank or material assets. Yes, they are nice to have but your real wealth is in your family, friends, and relationships.

I was lecturing in Wellington one day, in hospital in Auckland that night, and my business partner, Glorianne Campbell, due to fly to the USA the next day for two major industry conferences. With some difficulty, she was persuaded to go.

Compounding the problem was the introduction during this time of the new Real Estate Agents Act with some sweeping changes to our operations and compliance issues.

Two long-time friends and very experienced industry people stepped in to assist and oversee the company, our senior salespeople contributed above and beyond the call of duty, and our sales team and support team kept everything flowing. The company had a great month.

Lesson #3 - happiness is being alive. Happiness is finding out how rich you are - in family, friends and colleagues. Happiness is finding out that you are not indispensable - that the world and the company can manage without you. Happiness is living in New Zealand where our benefits far exceed our problems. Happiness is being on the recovery trail.
